The Objectives  are:

• Autism Center Nord-Bo is capable of establishing suitable living offers to the greatest extend possible
• Autism Center Nord-Bo supports its adolescents in establishing themselves in individually adjusted ways of living. This support is given in line with the individual needs and wishes
• The adolescent is supported in becoming as self-reliant as possible
• The department works out plans of conduct for each person; this is done in cooperation with the adolescent  
• The department works out strategies to come to terms with inner chaos ; this is done in cooperation with the adolescent

Support and assistance is given as special educational support in own homes according to SEL §85. The application goes through a caseworker from the adolescent’s own local authorities.

The department operates by using individual objectives and plans of conduct. The employees at Autism Center Nord-Bo have a thorough knowledge of the problems and the educational treatments methods in relation to adolescents diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

This includes support, guidance or help regarding:

• Cooking, healthy eating habits
• Financial circumstances, budget and organizing of personal documents
• Grocery shopping
• Laundry
• Structuring the everyday life
• Social events and socialisation in general
• Dialog partners
• Bedtime /Wake- up time
• Local transportation network
• Doctors-, dental-, hairdresser appointments e.g.
• Local authorities
• Pesonal hygiene
• Housework

Annual status meetings are held based on description of status and plans of conduct. Case worker, supervisor, parents, the adolescent and head of department attend the meeting in cooperation with employees from Autism Center Nord-Bo’s Day Care Treatment Centre.

Accommodation
The adolescent rents an apartment either through The Nord-Bo Fond, cooperative housing societies or private letters.

Currently The Nord-Bo Fond has five buildings with more than 30 apartments for rent and one apartment for guest/respite care at its disposal. The buildings are intended for the adolescents who need great support.

In the buildings it is possible to benefit from circumstances such as:

• One will avoid isolation and loneliness as there are more adolescents living in the same building
• The employee expenses decreases as it is split among the number of residents
• Employees will be presence everyday between 4 pm and 8 am and during the weekends
• The residents share the tasks of cooking, grocery shopping and cleaningof shared areas
• There is a shared »box of expenses« which means that once a month an amount is being paid to cover food, everyday necessaries, indoor maintenance, one monthly activity and an annual vacation
• There is a firm structure of the day regarding mealtimes and bedtimes
• Through house meetings the residents have influence on the decision-making process and on the rules of the house

Guest/Respite Care
In one of the buildings of The Nord-Bo Fond a guestroom is set up and adolescents attached to Autism Center Nord-Bo can use this during a weekend, for vacation or for »refuelling« in periods of time if needed.

Distance guidance is for adolescents from Autism Centre Nord-Bo who have moved away from the area because of education or the like, for instance to Copenhagen or Aarhus.

Distance guidance can be established by:

• Daily e-mail contact between user and supervisor.
• Visits – the supervisor pays at regular intervals the user a visit.
• Attending meetings – the supervisor can attend meetings at the adolescent´s residence etc.
• Arranging educational/social activities for the distance user

Companion Arrangement
The department can offer a companion arrangement for the adolescents from Autism Center Nord-Bo.

It can be a companion:

• to go to the doctor, hairdresser, dentist or public office with
• to travel or go on trips with
• to bring along to social events such as soccer games, ice hockey, the movies, concerts or theatre visits e.g.
• who comes along when going out at night, to Aalborg for instance

Co-arrangements
The department offers adolescents attached to the department co-arrangements such as summer vacation trips, group meals, movie trips, sports activities and much more.
